Pollinators
There is increasing awareness of how important pollinators are to the successful production of many crops. At the same time, reduced plant diversity and unintended effects from some insecticides have contributed to declines in pollinator populations. Most pollinators are insects, although some bird species also help pollinate certain plants. Supporting healthy pollinator populations requires providing both reliable food sources and suitable habitat. One of the best ways to do this is by establishing areas of diverse native plants that can meet the food and habitat needs of pollinators. Ideally, these plantings are spread throughout the farm, especially near fields where pollinators can provide the greatest benefit.
